My previous site attempts...
This website has evolved a lot over time. I started out on neocities when I was 13, and I was pretty terrible at it. But now I'm good at it! Wow... If you're wondering how I improved so much, the answer is practice. But some of the tools I used include:
- Visual Studio Code - this is the application I use to write my code, and then I upload the files to neocities (a free website hosting platform) when I'm done. You can edit your code directly in neocities' editor but it's a lot more inconvenient in my opinion.
- W3schools' html and css walkthroughs - I read through them all and copied notes to memorize them, then tested anything I thought would be useful on my own site. Khan academy also has a video series on html if you want a walkthrough that holds your hand through the basic stuff.
- Coding QnA websites - if you're stuck, all you have to do is copy the error into google. Chances are someone has already answered your exact question before.
- Inspecting code (but not stealing) - If you find a really cool looking website, you can view the source code (option + command + U on mac, control + U on windows) and look through it to see how it works. Don't just copy whole sections of others' code and fill in your own images and text, though. They probably wouldn't appreciate their hard work being ripped off.
- Learning precision - often times, if your code isn't working, it's because of a single mispelled word or incorrect tag.
Anyway, here are some of the old versions of my site, some more embarassing than others....
Twee overload - 2024/25
This one got really popular and is still one of the best things I've ever made.
Click here to view the old homepage!
And here to view the old about page.
My medieval revival / fantasy themed site - 2024
The about page from my first complete site - 2023
I lost all traces of the homepage but
just know it looked really cool.
2nd attempt of 2021
I was at a very japanese time in my life. I'm pretty sure this is a translation of walter white's monologue.
My first neocities site - also 2021
I gave up almost immediately.
My fake myspace page from 2021
Doesn't really count but it's funny. Everyone point and laugh at 13 year old me.
